Internet FAQs (16)
No. NCKCN will not support any equipment or setup in any way, shape, or form besides our own fully authorized systems. This is without exception. We will NOT provide any setup assistance, any technical support, or provide free advice in any way before, during, or after your connection. We sell the service for as low as we possibly can. At cost in fact. Your best way to connect, by far, is to simply use our systems.

Yes, a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection works perfectly. However, you will need to be aware of the risks to your LAN and we recommend that you have some type of internal security or protection as your wireless bridge will not be doing it for you. You may need to purchase a static IP address from NCKCN. You will want to work with your network supervisor to secure your internal connections.

No, not right out of the box, for the most part…However, many Internet related software can act as a server of sorts with proper configuration behind a firewall. NCKCN will not be responsible for any configuration of any such software. That is the users responsibility completely. Having said this, NCKCN can not allow any resale or delivering service that would be a direct competition to NCKCN. The NCKCN system has the ability to monitor connections & determine traffic patterns. The first violation will probably be your only notice and your connection will be terminated. Unless there is prior arrangements, there will be no exceptions. However, for internal private use, (from one LAN to another LAN owned by the same member for example), this is completely allowed.

Certainly. You will simply have an Ethernet connection directly to the Internet. However, each wireless bridge can directly be connected to one device and cannot be shared unless through a Broadband Router. All web browsers, email or “normal” Internet software will function perfectly with a wireless connection without any special configurations. Many Internet related software packages can, or may need, to act as a server of sorts. Most of this type of Internet software, with proper configuration will work behind a firewall/proxy, will function perfectly as well. One example might be an Internet gaming software. Please be aware that NCKCN will not be responsible for any configuration of any such software. That is the users responsibility completely. Each wireless kit details the internal setup of IP addresses so you can configure your Internet software as needed.

Yes. The wireless bridges work the same for Mac users or PC users. A wireless connection is simply an Ethernet connection from the wireless system to your computer or LAN. Any computer having a working Ethernet connection will work fine. All computers can be configured to use DHCP and will connect perfectly.

You can use our online bandwidth test at: http://nckcn.speedtest.net/. The Bandwidth Test estimates your connection throughput from your NCKCN connection to one of our NCKCN servers. This is a pretty good test of your local NCKCN connection; from us to you. This test does not measure Internet speed. No test does. Past our Internet connection, we have no way of controlling the bandwidth to other parts of the Internet.
** NOTE: Ensure you are connecting to North Central Kansas Community Network/Cunningham Telephone & Cable servers rather than other ISP servers, otherwise, your results will not be as accurate.

This process generally will take 7-14 business days, but depending on the complexity of your install (i.e. antenna placement & PC configuration), and your local installation professionals, should you choose one, your install could be much shorter or longer. At the point you make your commitment, an install date will be assigned. We will work closely with you, and do our best to meet this date, but again, it is relative to the complexity and circumstances we encounter. We require you to have a working Ethernet connection or you might have to bring in your computer to NCKCN or authorized technician to install an Ethernet card to ensure proper configuration and/or ordering the correct components if needed.

Yes. The wireless equipment and installation to the point of your internal connection is warranted for 1 year from date of purchase. However, this warranty is only valid when the wireless equipment is directly connected and powered by an NCKCN approved UPS with AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation) and does not include any alteration you have made to your system in any way. Any internal connection in any way, or Lightning damage in any way to your internal equipment past the wireless Ethernet connection is not covered. As with any electronic equipment and especially networking equipment, it should power through at least a surge protector and preferably a Uninterruptible Power Supply or UPS. Then your equipment is covered under the warranty of that power equipment.

The Wireless Bridge can be connected to one and only one device. All broadband connections should be connected to a Broadband Router and will work perfectly with any Ethernet connection to act as a connection sharing device for an entire LAN. This is by far the best setup instead of a software solution. However, you are more than welcome to use any additional internal Firewall/Proxy or sharing capability you wish. NCKCN will not be responsible for supporting this type of internal networking or Ethernet setup. That is, we will not be responsible for installing, troubleshooting, or otherwise supporting your internal network or configuration beyond the Wireless Device connection itself.

The Wireless Bridge can be connected to one and only one device. All broadband connections should be connected to a Broadband Router and will work perfectly with any Ethernet connection to act as a connection sharing device for an entire LAN. All you need on your computer or LAN is a working Ethernet connection. This means an internal Ethernet card and/or Ethernet LAN Hub/Switch. A wireless connection is simply an Ethernet connection to the wireless system. Any computer having a working Ethernet device or connection will work fine. All computers can be configured to use DHCP and will connect just fine. NCKCN DOES NOT use any internal PCMCIA wireless cards or proprietary setups on your physical computer, as they are prone to configuration errors, connection problems, and require a high amount of maintenance. An NCKCN wireless connection is very similar to a Cable Internet connection, requiring, again, only a simple working Ethernet device or connection on your end.

The wireless “Speed” is based on the average download and upload speeds of all our typical users. Due to the nature of a wireless network, absolute speed cannot be guaranteed to all locations and all conditions. There will be times when your site will exceed the stated speed, and there will be times when your site possibly will not download at full speed. Typically we judge speed as conservative as possible so you are delivered at least the speed stated. We will do our utmost to ensure you are delivered the fastest possible speed you can get. Typical speeds depends on the package you have selected.
Radwin x4G JET Subscriber Speeds (Speeds up to but not guaranteed):
Standard package speeds: 10Mbps by 2Mbps (Download by Upload)
Supreme package speeds: 25Mbps by 5Mbps (Download by Upload)
Extreme package speeds: 50Mbps by 10Mbps (Download by Upload)
NextGen® WiMax Subscriber Speeds (Speeds up to but not guaranteed):
Basic package speeds: 3Mbps by 1.5Mbps (Download by Upload)
Premium package speeds: 6Mbps by 3Mbps (Download by Upload)

Short answer: Yes.
However, NCKCN highly recommends that all new customers sign a 2 year contract. This contract usually includes NCKCN’s monthly special where new customers receive half off the equipment fee (among other great offers depending on which Internet package you select, and this includes being placed under a 2 year warranty). The remainder of the equipment fee will need to be paid in full up front.
To sum things up, instead of paying $600 up-front for equipment, you pay $300 up-front (again, dependent on which Internet package you select). Please note, this does not include the install fee nor your monthly bill.
So, those who do not sign a 2 year contract will need to pay for the equipment and installation fees in full and will not be placed under a 2 year warranty at the time of installation as well as pay their monthly bill.
Equipment Fee: $600
Installation Fee: $100
The above prices would be for any type of Internet package NCKCN offers if no 2 year contract is signed. Prices may vary.
Monthly Bill: Depends on the package you have selected, either $50/mo, $70/mo, or $90/mo.

This is a normal occurrence on the web. At any given time there are any number of sites either down for maintenance, errors, or the links are outdated. Just keep trying again, if the site was down for maintenance, you will be able to access it shortly.

A cookie is information that a website puts on your hard disk so that it can remember something about you at a later time. (More technically, it is information for future use that is stored by the server on the client side of a client/server communication.) Typically, a cookie records your preferences when using a particular site. Using the web’s Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), each request for a web page is independent of all other requests. For this reason, the web page server has no memory of what pages it has sent to a user previously or anything about your previous visits. A cookie is a mechanism that allows the server to store its own information about a user on the user’s own computer. You can view the cookies that have been stored on your hard disk (although the content stored in each cookie may not make much sense to you). The location of the cookies depends on the browser you use. Internet Explorer stores each cookie as a separate file under a Windows subdirectory. Netscape stores all cookies in a single cookies.txt file. Opera stores them in a single cookies.dat file. Cookies are commonly used to rotate the banner ads that a site sends. It is a debatable subject whether cookies are good or bad. For the most part, they are innocuous, but it doesn’t hurt to delete them either. If you disable cookies, some websites will not function correctly. Those people concerned with having complete security and privacy will probably disable cookies and delete all of them from their computer.

Goodness Gracious…The answer is No times a trillion! NCKCN strongly recommends that all Internet users have some kind of Internet security installed. These days, you will be bombarded with spyware, malware and other nasty downloads from the Internet simply by browsing from site to site without any protection. The very best is to use some kind of firewall/router that protects you from these hazards and it just so happens, NCKCN has done some research and is now selling TP-Link routers for $70 each.
